Listen and allow the person to talk without judging them. Reassure the person that <strong>help is available, and you will help them find it.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>If a person exhibits warning signs:<\/strong> do not leave them alone, connect them to the Crisis Line, and offer local resources\/referrals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"clear: both\"><\/div>\n<h3>Summary<\/h3>\n<hr>\n<ul>\n<li>Remember <span class=\"emphasize\">S.A.V.E.S.<\/span><sup id=\"popoverA\" class=\"citation\" title=\"Citation\" data-toggle=\"popover\" data-html=\"true\" data-placement=\"bottom\">13<\/sup>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"emphasize\">S<\/span>igns: look for the warning signs of suicide<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"emphasize\">A<\/span>sk the question<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"emphasize\">V<\/span>alidate the person\u2019s experiences and feelings<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"emphasize\">E<\/span>xpedite referral<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"emphasize\">S<\/span>et a reminder to follow up with the patient<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Pharmacy staff can engage in suicide prevention to help save lives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"pullquote\">\u201cI interact with people often who feel comfortable telling me about major life events. I listen and am empathetic and stop what I&#8217;m doing to listen. I may not have time, but I make time. I strive for them to feel better when walking away from my counter.
